Vaping- Is it Harmful to Pets?

Besides, they may also present adverse effects on humans when used for a long time.  According to the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health, vaping causes increased density of nicotine, hydrocarbons, and aluminum to the indoor air quality.

These composites can contribute to pets being sick. For example, dogs can develop nasal tumors, nasal cancer, lung cancer, and allergic reactions. We must limit our pets’ exposure to these harmful substances.

The Vape Parts

Various components make up an E-cigarette including batteries, heating coils, atomizers, cartridges, and mouthpieces. All these are in danger of being ingested by pets if left unattended. This is because animals usually get enticed by the flavorful scents that vapes produce.

If the casings or batteries are accidentally swallowed, pets can have mouth burns and gastrointestinal problems. Therefore, all vape parts are dangerous to animals and should be kept from reach.

How Can You Keep Your Pets Safe?

Here are some useful tips to protect your pet from harmful exposure to vapes.

  • Stay away from your pets when vaping. Do your family and pets a favor, go outside. Never smoke indoors unless you are alone. This will also minimize exposure to secondhand smoke.
  • Keep your E-cigarettes out of reach from your pets. Our pets are curious creatures and like babies, they love to put their discoveries inside their mouths. Store your E-cigarettes in elevated and secured places.
  • Be familiar with signs of nicotine and THC poisoning. Be knowledgeable and alert on how your pets are feeling at all times. Bring them to the vet immediately if they present any indications of poisoning.

Nicotine can over stimulate an animal’s nervous system and hinder it from functioning normally. Some of the signs of poisoning can include vomiting, tremors, convulsions, abnormal heart rate, diarrhea, and irregular pulse and heartbeat. Additionally, Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC poisoning can present as lethargy, vomiting, difficulty walking, low or high heart rate, abnormal temperature regulation, tremors, seizures, and coma.
